Carl Plate
Carl Plate 1909-1977
Carl Plate was a leading figure and artist in the post-war modern art movement in Australia. He was a prolific collage artist and painter, also running the Notanda Gallery in Sydney's Rowe Street (1940-1974)
His work is represented in the national and state galleries and in private collections in Australia, Europe and the USA.
After studying art in Sydney and London and extensive travels in Mexico, USA, France, Scandinavia and USSR, Carl Plate experimented with ideas and materials. His highly original work charts a unique course across the mid-twentieth century modern art.
